Mexican Food Done Right

I have a rule when we’re hungry – If there’s a line out the door, it doesn’t matter what it is, we’re going. This was the case with Taqueria 2 Portillos off 215 freeway near Perris, CA. While driving one afternoon, scouting locations for the trailer, we came across this gem of an establishment.

The line was nearly out the door, but it moved fast, very fast. There wasn’t an open seat in the place and you could just tell this was going to be amazing. As we approached the counter I asked the gentleman in front of me what he had just ordered (because it looked so good as it was prepared), and he gave me the 411 on his order. Then, he gave me a rundown of half the menu.

I could have ordered the entire menu – it looked and smelled good. Being the simple beast that I am, I ordered a few tacos, their asada quesadilla, and a torta. All of which was… amazing.

It’s obvious this place has a little family recipe going on. Google “tacos” in the local area of Taqueria 2 Portillos and you will find several other taco shops – all of which have the label “NOW CLOSED” on them. That’s saying something..

I don’t imagine you will be driving in the area of Taqueria 2 Portillos anytime soon, but if you’re ever headed to wine country down in Temecula, or on your way to San Diego, I highly recommend stopping here for lunch or breakfast. According to my friend at the counter, the chorizo was to die for.
